Gothenburg Roller Derby

Gothenburg Roller Derby, often called GBGRD, was founded in 2009 as Gothenburg’s first and Sweden’s third roller derby league. Starting out as a small group of five members, the league quickly grew into an established organization with a strong community.

Their travel team was called the Aqwarriors, and for a time they also had a B-team, the Badass Beavers. GBGRD has played an important role in developing the Swedish derby scene – among other things, they organized the country’s very first official National Championship in roller derby in 2013 and in 2016 they won they came in third place

Dock city Rollers

Dock City Rollers, also called DCR, was founded in Gothenburg at the end of 2012 and had since established itself as one of Sweden’s most successful roller derby leagues. They ran several teams, an elite-level A-team, a B and C-team (plan B and C-gulls), and a junior program.

The league has earned multiple medals in the Swedish Championships, including silver in 2024 and 2016 and several bronze finishes. Internationally, they made a strong impression by participating in the European Regional Championship 2024 and winning the WFTDA European Continental Cup 2019 , which lifted the team onto the European top level.

Now we are one

In 2024 GBGRD and DCR decided that Gothenburg is too small to have two large leagues and took the step to merge together. There was a dating phase where the two leagues had practices, scrimmages and bootcamps together and after months of hard and important work it was time. In December 2024 we had our first big annual meeting where the new board, training group and most important of all - the league's new name was elected!

We now have three teams, a beginners group called Fresh Wheels, a development group called Impact Players, a junior program and a growing group of Officials. The A-team has already won bronze in the Swedish Championships and the B-team was declared winners in a tournament with different teams from around Europe.

This is just the beginning of GÖRD, so stay tuned!
